When Jesus sends out His disciples, they are symbolically recapitulating the exodus and conquest of the land by the twelve tribes (6:7–13). Obviously all these militant themes reach their climax towards the end of the Gospel when Jesus wins the battle by giving Himself sacrificially on the cross and rising again on the third day, as the Victim becomes the Victor, and those who see Him in His glory shake with fear (15–16). Since Mark
